Even when you pass a car driver record check with flying colors, there are still lots of possible reasons why the car rental company may refuse to rent their cars to you. Here are some “sins” you may have committed that have resulted in your problem:
- You drove it around for too many miles. If you do this, make sure your contract stipulates “unlimited miles”. If it doesn’t, then you really shouldn’t use the rental car to drive from NYC to LA. Also, check the contract if it allows you to drive the car into Mexico or Canada.
- You don’t pay your bills promptly. Just pay right away. Sometimes you may still get a bill for unpaid parking tickets months after you return your rental car. When that happens, pay those bills too. Don’t even dispute the charges, especially when the rental contract spells out the terms clearly.
- You act like a bully. If you act threateningly or belligerently towards an employee of the car rental company, you may get yourself in the banned list. This is especially true if you behaved violently enough that the cops had to be called in.
- You let someone else drive your rental. The car rental company trusts you to drive their car, and not anybody else. So, don’t give your buddies a special “thrill” of driving your exotic rental. If something happens to the car during this time, the car rental company won’t rent their cars to you again.
- You’ve committed a crime using a rental. These crimes include drinking and driving, which is so serious that just about every other car rental company will ban you too.
All you really need to do is to follow the rules, be polite, and pay promptly. Follow these rules, and you’ll never find yourself in the car rental company’s Do Not Rent list!
